Today’s first reading includes the following lines:
“For Jews demand signs and Greeks look for wisdom,
but we proclaim Christ crucified,
a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles,
but to those who are called, Jews and Greeks alike,
Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.”
At times in our Church when there seems to be so much darkness, it is good to remind ourselves that God works in ways we could never imagine. This has been the way from the beginning. How could the power of God be revealed through what seems like total human failure: Jesus on the cross? And yet that is what God did. People will continue to walk away from such ‘madness’, but as long as week keep our eyes on Jesus and not on human failure, then we will remain on the right path. Jesus appointed Peter as his first pope; Peter, who had publicly sworn three times that he didn’t know who Jesus was. God is with us no matter what. Have a great weekend. Fr. Murchadh
